In The Bronx, they put paramedics in SUV’s so that they are not encumbered by ambulances and the need to go on unnecessary rides to the hospital. This allows them to respond to more medical emergencies in a given shift and reduces response times. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

They’ve done similar things in rural parts of the states. Except, they’re sent to stabilize the patient and get there before an ambulance would. Also making the determination if an ambulance is needed.

I think someone in the Bronx without Timbs and a Yankees hat warrants an emergency call.

Here, the firefighters are almost always the first to get to anything, and ambulances are last to show up unless they’re specifically requested. There also isn’t enough paramedics, so being in smaller vehicles wouldn’t help much. If we had enough, that would be a really good idea. Right now, there are so many calls being responded to because of the overdose crisis, that the firefighters are waking up mothballed old trucks from the 70s and 80s, and all police officers are being given naloxone kits. The firefighters and paramedics already had them. Oh and anyone can go to a drug store and request one now, so people can revive overdosing people and bring them to a hospital themselves if necessary, so the first responders can be slightly less totally overwhelmed. Good stuff.
